Playing host to London CCCCA, who have joined the ECB Championship this year, the Islanders were quickly in their batting stride with an opening partnership of 29 off just 4 overs. On the hottest day of the year, visitors Essex surprisingly elected to field, but were quickly rewarded with the run out of Wayne Dunne following a direct hit by Ronnie Jackson. Electing to bat on a seemingly hard and bouncy track at Shanklin the Isle of Wight's disability side (The Caulkheads) were soon finding runs difficult to get, as the bounce from the wicket proved a little variable.
