With just one more game to play for all the teams in Div 1 of the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League, EPP look favourites to finish as runners up to champions Ryde 1 following a comfortable 66 run win over bottom side Island Bakeries last Sunday.

EPP’s batsmen took an early grip on the game with Ross Whyte (32), Zeph Wells (29) and Dan Cox (29) all hitting not out scores in their total of 170-3. Matt Webb and Kieran Annisboth hit 25 not out to giveBakeries a good start but tight bowling saw them eventually finish on 104-2 (Oscar Vandecasteele 2-2). Champions Ryde 1 are still unbeaten following a 69 run triumph against Shanklin &Godshill 1. Not outs from Dave Pratt (27), Josh Proctor (32), Martyn Richards (25) and Tom Roscoe (27) took Ryde to 166-2, a total that the Westhill side never threatened as they could only make 97-5 despite good knocks from Seb Egerton-Read, 29 and Peter Wright, 25. The other game in Div 1 saw Northwood 1 lose their second place spot as they were beaten by Brading by 31 runs. Brading’s experienced pair of Alan Johns (26) and Mark Hartnell (25) were both unbeaten as they helped their side to 132-5, a total that proved too much for Northwood 1 as they fell away to 101 all out (John Jones 29).

With the top 3 sides in Div 2 not playing Newport took advantage to move up in to fourth place with a 38 run win over the Cricket Board Disability Team. Newport scored 139-1 (Guy Wells 27 not out, Nick Earley 26 not out) and then held the Disability side to 101-5 in reply. Prison Officers finished their campaign by gaining their third win of the season with an 18 run victory in a low scoring game against Northwood 2. Batting first the Officers could only make 106-4 but they then bowled tightly to restrict Northwood 2 to 88-4 despite good not out scores from Liam Roberts (28) and Ben Baker (29).

The season finishes next Sunday (16th) with 6 games taking place at Rew Valley Sports Centre, Ventnor. All the attention will be on Div 2 where Ryde 2 will look to remain undefeated and take the title ahead of nearest challengers Cowes.
