There are 3 new sides competing in the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League this winter. Both Ryde and Northwood have entered a secondteam, and with Ventnor also returning to the competition, it means indoor cricket is in good health as 15 teams do battle across 2 divisions.

The first round of games began last Sunday and in Div 1 saw wins for EPP, Ryde 1 and Northwood 1. Last year’s runner up EPP scored 131-5 (Dan Cox 33 not out) and overcameBrading by 31 runs (Dave Cox 27 not out).Shanklin &Godshill 1 could not prevent the current champions Ryde 1 getting maximum points as they were easily defeated by 117 runs. Mark Oatley scored 38 for Ryde as they made 171-5 but it was Liam Ringer who took the man of the match honours by hitting 37 not out and then taking 4-9 as the Westhill side were bowled out for 54. Northwood 1 also made a good start by defeating newly promoted Island Bakeries. Ellis Ridett top scored with 29 for the Bakersbut they were only able to score 102-5 (Liam Roberts 2-17). Northwood 1’s John Jones with 25 not out made sure his side raced to their target in just 7 overs.

The Cricket Board’s Disability Team were unable to put out a side for their game against Ryde School which meant that only one game was played in Div 2. This saw a narrow 2 wicket win for Shanklin &Godshill 2 against Ventnor. Dan Ward hit 36 for Ventnor in their total of 105-6 but it was Seb Egerton-Read’s undefeated 38 that saw Shanklin &Godshill 2 home.

7pm Disability Team v Cowes (Div 2)
