Carisbrooke High School Old Boys regained the IWCB Midweek League title yesterday, following a high scoring play-off Final against St Helens CC.

St Helens' Captain, Mark Allen, won the toss and elected to field.

Duncan Spite removed both Old Boys openers during his four over spell, bowling Joe McCormack for 15 and dismissing Rich Wilson, caught and bowled, for 14.

Those wickets were followed by an unbroken 136 run partnership between Neil Westhorpe, 80 not out, and Pat Morris, 48 not out, which guided the Old Boys to an excellent total of 173-2 from their 20 overs.

St Helens openers Reg and J.Lynch began the run chase and put on 35 for the first wicket. Reg was out for 20, in the 6th over, caught on the boundary by Cliff Marks off the bowling of Andy Ball.

In the 12th over, Marks took a second good catch on the boundary to claim the wicket of Lee Brown, out for 14 off the bowling of Ian Pitman, and in the 13th over Lynch was run out for 37 by a Neil Westhorpe throw to wicketkeeper Richard Wilson.

Mark Wolfenden, 4, and Chris Earley 18, were the next two St Helens wickets to fall and, despite a late 16 not out out from Duncan Spite, St Helens finished on 138-8, 36 runs short of their target.

Neil Westhorpe finished with bowling figures of 4-0-21-2, with Old Boys Captain, Gary Freeston, recording figures of 4-0-24-2.
