A sparkling century from Freddie Chatfield helped the Island's Under 13 team to a 93 run victory at Newclose on Sunday against a strong Aldro School side. Aldro won the toss and put the Island in to bat in overcast conditions. An early breakthrough with the score on just 5 seemed to justify the decision to bowl but then a 60 partnership between captain Ben Duggan(20) and Chatfield put the Island in control.
When Duggan departed, Chatfield put on another three good partnerships, firstly of 48 with Ross Whyte(17), then 69 with Harry Wratten(16) and lastly 43 with Charlie Connaughton(15). Chatfield reached his 100 in the thirty third over, despite being in a lot of pain with a shoulder injury and reluctantly retired hurt. The Island ended their 40 overs with a very competitive 257 for 5 with Ben Baker hitting a quick 17 not out at the end.

The Island were confident of recording a victory and a good performance in the field saw them take regular wickets without allowing Aldro to build any big partnerships. Duggan's slow left arm bowling saw him get lots of turn and this brought him 4 wickets for 44 in his 8 overs. Kyle Blair picked up a couple of wickets towards the end as Aldro fell to 164 all out.
