The indoor cricket league got back underway last Sunday at Ryde Academy.

Prison Officers maintained their good start and now head the table in Division 2 following a close victory over Ryde School mainly thanks to a terrific all round performance from Mark Allen. Allen took 2-8 for the Officers to help restrict Ryde School to a total of 109-3 despite good unbeaten knocks from Ben White (26) and Freddie Gurney (24). Ryde School fought back strongly with White showing his all round skills by taking 3 wickets but it was Allen with a match winning 62 who saw the Officers home by the narrowest of margins to win by 1 wicket.

Ryde Cavaliers are also still unbeaten in Div 2 after they defeated Northwood 2nds by 3 wickets. Northwood’s second string posted a competitive 136-3 (Callum Witham 34 not out, James Whitewood 27 not out) but Tommy Barton’s unbeaten 25 and 24 from Joe Butcher saw Cavaliers home despite 3 wickets for Witham.

In Div 1 the Cricket Board’s EPP side enjoyed a 4 wicket win over Newport by chasing down the Newport score of 123-5. Newport’s top scorers were Mike Watson (35) and Guy Wells (30) but their total was never enough as not out scores of 28 from Ben Attrill, 26 from Zeph Wells and 25 from Ben White made sure EPP stay in contention at the top of the table.

The other Div 1 match that was completed saw Ventnor enjoy a 6 wicket victory over Brading. Despite a fine effort from Alan Johns (54 not out), Brading could only reach 119-5, a total easily passed thanks to unbeaten scores from Neil Westhorpe (30), Chris Russell (27) and Martin Blackman (28). During the match the players showed their respect for Ventnor stalwart Keith Newnham who sadly passed away recently following a long illness.
