15 Nov 2015 A heroic performance from Northwood II captain, Ben Baker gave his side victory from an unlikely position on Sunday evening in Division 2 of the Isle of Wight Indoor League. The night started poorly for Baker, after he dropped the first ball of the match, with Morgan Perrin going on to make an unbeaten 41 after the costly miss to take Ventnor up to 123-5. Martin Blackman added 27, but Baker was the pick of the bowlers with 1-18 from his three overs. Northwood II's chase didn't start well, with the score 44-3 inside the sixth over. Baker and James Whitewood built a solid partnership, but a win remained unlikely with 47 runs needed from the final three overs. Ventnor looked to have the game even more wrapped up when Whitewood (16) became the third person to be run out by George Willis, leaving Baker alone at the crease needing 30 runs from the final ten deliveries. A six and seven byes took the total needed down to 17 from the final over, Baker hitting the required runs with a ball remaining, ending on 48 not out to get his side home to a one wicket victory.

Ryde II are top of Division 2 after their third victory in as many games. The top four of Jadon Buckeridge (29*), Kevin Wrigley (29*), Simon Wratten (27*) and Dave Buckeridge (25*) all retired as Ryde II amassed 162-1. Only Richard Robertson (43) made double figures for Island Bakeries, Ryan Hall taking 2-21 as Bakeries were bowled out for 94. East Cowes II made it consecutive wins after defeating Shanklin in a tight contest. Jack Powell (39*) and Sean Phillips (26*) top-scored for Shanklin in a total of 124-4. Phillips then took 2-40 for Shanklin, but with sixteen needed in the final over, Dave Cooper (35*) and Tom Turtle (24*) got East Cowes II over the line with a ball remaining in a two wicket win. Godshill got back to winning ways against winless Newport II. Ollie McArthur (37*), Mike Watson (33*) and Kevin Winchcombe (25*) all retired as Newport II totalled 131-3 from their 12 overs. Godshill made light work of the chase however, Phil Mew (26*), Malcolm Gibson (26*) and Ray Winter (25*) all retiring as Godshill reached their target with an over to spare without losing a wicket. IW Health Associates are also still without a win after losing to Ryde School. Tarun Howles (31*) and Kyle Blair (27*) continued their form as Ryde School made 152-3, Bruno Lambert also retiring with 25*, David Hands taking 2-28. Blair then took 2-16 as IW Health Associates were dismissed for 77, D Henderson (20) and Lewis Lewis (17) the only batsmen reaching double figures.

In Division 1, East Cowes remain top after their third win in a row. Alan Johns top-scored with 36* as East Cowes totalled 144-5 against IW Prison Officers. Adam Wilson (29*) started the chase well for IWPO but lacked support as his side ended on 87-3, Dave Brown the pick of the bowlers with 1-16. Newport won a tantalising contest against Ryde to keep up their 100% record this season. Gareth Bricknell (45*) and Ash Brett (26) helped Newport up to 147-5, Mark Oatley with 2-29 for Ryde. In reply, two many wickets were the problem for Ryde, Mark Oatley (47) and Liam Ringer (36) the top-scorers as they were bowled out for 115 with two overs to spare. Harry Dye and Lewis Wright both took 2-40 for Newport, with Brett (1-9) bowling economically in his two overs. Northwood got their first victory of the season in a low-scoring match against Niton. Kerry Rice (2-10) and Gavin Paddock (2-31) reduced Niton to 98-5 from their 12 overs, Joby Wells (36*) and Tom Doble (29) scoring the bulk of the runs. In reply, Northwood stumbled to 52-3, with Doble taking 2-29. However, Ashley Goldsmith (31*) and Nathan Proud (15*) got Northwood over the line with two balls remaining for a two wicket victory.
