Division 2 Title Race goes to final week

5 Jan 2014 Island Bakeries and IW Prison Officers are both in with a chance of winning the Isle of Wight Indoor Division 2 going into the final round of fixtures on Sunday. IW Prison Officers have finished their games, with six wins from seven, but if Island Bakeries can win their final game and keep their run rate above the Prison Officers, they will win the league. Island Bakeries current run rate is 11.51, whilst the Prison Officers is 11.20.

IW Prison Officers made it a winning finish to their season by beating Newport II by 6 wickets. Newport II made 117-4, with Stuart Gurney again top-scoring with 31 not out. Tom Stafford made an unbeaten 22, but Neil Westhorpe was the pick of the bowlers with 2-32. In reply, IW Prison Officers eased to victory, their chase taking them just 9.2 overs. John Turner and Westhorpe both made 25 not out, with Adam Wilson hitting an unbeaten 18.

Experience triumphed over youth in the other game of the evening, with Godshill defeating Ryde Cavaliers II by 49 runs. Godshill made an impressive 162-1, with Ray Winter (31*), Trev Mew (27*) and Malcolm Gibson (26*) all retiring. Jack Halder made 47 not out in reply for Ryde Cavaliers II, with useful knocks also from Tom Dibben (19) and Dan Walter (18), but Gibson took 2-18 as Godshill restricted their opponents to 113-5.
