Holders knocked out of indoor cup

12 Oct 2014 The holders of the indoor cup crashed out at the first hurdle after losing by four wickets to 2012 winners, Newport. East Cowes were bowled out for just 77, Mark Hartnell (14) the only batsman in double figures, with Gareth Bricknell taking 2-19. In reply, Nat Riddett (25*) and Bricknell (16*) saw Newport home for the loss of two wickets in the tenth over. Ryde II put in an impressive performance, knocking out Niton by five wickets. Niton posted 130, Ben Fooks top-scoring with 32, Andy Woodward taking 2-22. Harry Wratten (30*), Jadon Buckeridge (27*) and Dave Buckeridge (27*) all retired in the chase, Ryde II cruising home in the ninth over for the loss of just one wicket. Ryde II will play Godshill in the next round after the latter defeated IW Health Associates by 36 runs. Jez Robinson (38*), Malcolm Gibson (34*) and Jim Winter (34*) helped Godshill reach 146-4, Raj with figures of 2-33. Tight bowling ensured victory for Godshill, IW Health Associates falling short on 110-4.

Northwood are through to the quarter-finals after a wonderful fielding and bowling display against Shanklin. Four run outs and two wickets for Niall Casson (2-17) saw Shanklin bowled out for 76, Benji White top-scoring with 29. Gavin Paddock hit 26* in reply, Northwood reaching the target in the eighth over for the loss of one wicket. Ryde Cavaliers will be Northwood's opponents after they beat Northwood II by 22 runs. Ryde Cavaliers made 142-2, Tom Dibben (27*) and Jack Halder (25*) leading the way, James Whitewood with 2-32. Northwood II failed to recover from a slow start in their chase and fell short on 120-5 despite a stunning indoor debut fifty from Whitewood (50*), Harry Roberts taking 2-28. IW Prison Officers were the other winners on the night, overcoming East Cowes II in the final over. East Cowes II made 124-4, Dan Cox making 28*, Steve Rowe the pick of the bowlers with 2-28. Alex Oliver (34*) and Les Barns (29*) saw the Prison Officers home as they hit 41 runs from the final three overs for a three wicket victory.
