Hugh Wells - Director (Staff)
I have been a IWCB director since 2016 when the then chairman asked me if I would be willing to stand to bring some of my business experience to the board.
I am by no means a cricket expert and my cricketing knowledge has mainly been limited to having my 4 sons on various cricketing pathways, both on the Island and further afield.
Having observed cricket at many different levels I have come to realise that it is vitally important for its enjoyment to always keep our sport in perspective and realise cricket is just a game – albeit a great game which can provoke strong passions!
This is especially important for the IW Cricket Board as we seek to support and develop Island cricket, through school and community programmes, though the clubs and by providing development opportunities for our most talented young players.
We have many passionate and strong voices in Island cricket and I believe that the IWCB should work to ensure these are kept focused to advance the development of cricket on the Island.
Outside of cricket I work as Managing Director at AJ Wells and Sons in Newport, I am also a trustee of Isle of Wight Youth for Christ and have previously served as a school governor for many years.
I am willing and would be happy to serve again as an IWCB director if the clubs so wish.
