The first league matches got underway at Ryde Academy’s sports hall last Sunday. 3 games took place in Division 2 and saw early wins for Ryde School, Godshill and Prison Officers.

Dan Cox hit an unbeaten 73 in Ryde School’s total of 170-4 against Cowes. Despite a valiant effort from Josh Rice (43), the bowling of Cox (3-23) and Ben Attrill (2-10) restricted Cowes to 78 all out.

Godshill, who were asked to bat first against Northwood 2nds, posted 145-5 helped by John Turner (39) and Steve Egerton-Read (31 not out). In reply, Northwood 2nds fell 17 runs short despite unbeaten knocks from Callum Witham (28), Jordan Langdon (29) and Jeff Barrett (26).

The final game saw a comfortable win for Prison Officers against Island Bakeries. Batting first, Bakeries could not cope with the pace of Mark Allen (3-10) and were only able to muster 109-5. Almost all the Bakers’ runs came from Tom Wells (48 not out) and Tony Cook (26). Prison Officers were never troubled getting to their target as unbeaten knocks from Adam Wilson (25) and Allen (28) saw them home for the loss of just 1 wicket. The league season gets into full swing next Sunday with games in both Division 1 and 2.
