The Isle of Wight over50 cricket team travelled to New Milton to play a New Forest over50 Xl on Wednesday 7th July.

In cool, overcast conditions the Island captain Mike Watson won the toss and elected to bat . In their allotted 40 overs the Island compiled an excellent 267-4 with superb contributions from T. Mew (102) and N. Morey (111 not out) and a cameo 30 not out from C.Wade

In reply the New Forest , chasing nearly 7 an over, set off positively with notable innings from R Wilkins (90), C.Todd (82) and J.Metcalfe (34 not out) but were unable to overhaul the Island's total finishing 13 runs short on 254-6.

This was an excellent performance from IOW who were fielding a somewhat under strength team of only ten players. The general out fielding and bowling was good throughout with opening spells from Wade (1-49) and J.Fletcher (0-41) ably supported by Morey (1-40) , R.Tillbrook (0-37) and, notably, part-time bowlers Watson (1-53) and Mew (2-25).

This hard earned win for the Island will hopefully spur them on to more successful performances in their final ECB over50 league games.
