The IW Cricket League’s Indoor Cup competition got underway at Ryde Academy’s new sports hall last Sunday.

Four matches were played with the winners making it through to this week’s quarter finals. Ryde hit the biggest score of the evening in their match against Ryde School. Their score of 190-3 included a top score of 34 from Simon Wratten. This score was never troubled as Ryde’s Liam Ringer then took four wickets with Ryde School being bowled out for 82. The best game of the evening saw Godshill beat Ventnor by 1 wicket. John Buckman’s undefeated 43 in a Ventnor total of 136 was not enough as Godshill, helped by 51 extras bowled by the youthful Ventnor side, sneaked home in the last over.

Shanklin made light work of beating Island Bakeries thanks to skipper Benji White who took two wickets and then top scored with 26 not out. The Bakers total of 111 was passed with 5 overs to spare. In the final game of the evening, the Cricket Board’s young EPP side hit a very competitive 162 with good contributions from Zeph Wells (35) and Ben Attrill (29). Cowes contributed to the EPP’s cause by conceding 70 extras and, in reply, only the experienced Scott Rice with an undefeated 30 delayed a 62 run win for the EPP.
Newport also progressed to the quarter finals following the withdrawal of their opponents, Brading.
