There was an exciting end to the Div 1 game between Shanklin &Godshill 1 and Northwood 1 in the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League last Sunday. Needing 4 to win off the last ball, Northwood could only scramble 3 runs to tie a game they were set to win. Earlier, the Egerton-Read brothers Seb (52 not out) and Steve (28) helped Shanklin &Godshill 1 make a competitive 146-5, but 32 from Callum Witham, 31 from Jon Butt and an undefeated 36 from Liam Roberts meant Northwood 1 hit the same scoreto see the points shared. Thanks to a tremendous individual performance by Ryde 1’s Josh Proctor, current champions Ryde 1 recovered from a sticky start to hold on to their unbeaten start to the season and see off the challenge of EPP by 49 runs. Batting first Ryde were reduced to 15-3 before Proctor smashed his way to 77 not out and with support from Stuart Robertson (29 not out) Ryde 1 eventually made 164-4. EPP’s Ali Wheble (54) put up good resistance but it was Proctor’s day as his tight bowling (2-11) made sure EPP fell short on 115-6.

In Div 2 Ventnor secured their first victory of the season with a 62 run triumph over the Cricket Board’s Disability Team. Not outs from Toby Noyes 29, Ethan Edmunds-Lamb 39 and Morgan Goulding 25 took Ventnor to 142-3, a total which proved too much for the Disability side as 2 wickets for James Bradshawkept their chase down to 80-4. Ryde 2 enjoyed a comfortable 110 run win over a Prison Officers side playing their first game of the season. Ryde 2 hit 161-5 (Tom Roscoe 27) and then held the Officers to 51-6 with James Williams taking 3-9. The other game in Div 2 saw a narrow win for Cowes (119-3) against Ryde School (118-4) with just 4 balls to spare.
