Last week saw the two Northwood sides go head to head in Div 2 of the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League and it was the first team who comprehensively outplayed their second string team mates to win by 126 runs. Batting first, Northwood 1 amassed 182-2 with not out scores from Gavin Paddock (32), Ash Goldsmith (28) and Martyn Richards (27) leading the way. In reply, Northwood 2nds were shown no mercy and could only struggle to 56-6 (Callum Witham 25).
There is everything to play for in Div 2 as Northwood 1 are now level on points at the top of the table with Godshill. Both sides have just 2 games left to play with the title being up for grabs when the two sides clash in 2 week’s time.
Also in Div 2 Health Associates enjoyed their first win of the season with a 4 wicket victory over Ryde School. Chasing the School’s 143-3 (Jamie Woodward 25 not out), Associates batted well to reach their target for the loss of only 2 wickets (Souvik Sanyal 27 not out, Dave Pratt 27 not out).
A Mark Allen hat trick in the final over of the match gave Prison Officers (138-6) a close fought 17 run victory over Ryde Cavaliers (121-6). The Officers were grateful to Gary Kimber (28), Mark Allen (30) and Chris Earley (25) for setting a target that Cavaliers’ Joe Butcher (27) and Tommy Barton (25) were hopeful to overtake until Allen’s late bowling heroics.
Thanks to another good all round performance from Chris Russell, Ventnor moved up to 2nd place in Div 1 after beating Newport by 4 wickets. Despite a valiant 23 from Paul Attrill, Newport’s total of 84 all out (Russell 3-20) was never enough and Ventnor eased to victory (Russell 25 not out, Martin Blackman 27 not out).
A terrific knock of 65 from Alan Johns was not enough to prevent his side, Brading, from slipping to defeat against Shanklin. Despite John’s excellent display with the bat, Brading were bowled out for 116, a total that Shanklin overcame in just 9 overs (Nathan Moore 26 not out).
