With Div 1 leaders Ryde 1 not playing, it was the chance for some of the chasing sides to make their mark in the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League last Sunday.

Previously unbeaten Northwood 1 failed to grab the opportunity though, going down by 43 runs to the Cricket Board’s EPP youngsters. Batting first, EPP scored 155-3 helped by Ali Wheble (35) continuing his fine form with the bat and not out contributions from Dan Cox 27 and Will Mew 29. In reply Northwood 1 could only muster 112-4. Brading won their second game of the season defeating bottom side Island Bakeries by 71 runs. Experienced openers Alan Johns 28 and Mark Hartnell 27 not out took Brading to 153-4 (Kieran Annis 3-19), a total that proved too much for Bakeries as they were bowled out for just 82.

In Div 2, Ryde 2 are threatening to match their first team colleagues as they also maintained an unbeaten start to the season by crushing Shanklin & Godshill 2 by 91 runs. Despite 3 wickets for Norton Mew, Ryde 2 hit 162-4 with Guy Bonnett (27), and not outs from Simon Wratten (38) and Liam Ringer (28) leading the way. Tight bowling then kept Shanklin &Godshill 2 to 71-4 (Peter Wright 25) to see Ryde 2 home. In their game against Northwood 2,Ryde School hit a formidable 184-1 thanks to not out knocks from Ali Wheble 26, Dan Cox 38, Will Mew 27 and Andy Woodward 25. Northwood 2 fell 75 runs short in their reply although both Martyn Richards (28 not out) and Ben Baker (31 not out) fought hard. Newport secured their first victory of the campaign with a 5 wicket win over Ventnor. Ventnor made 80-6 (Morgan Flood 31) but it was not enough to prevent Mike Watson (25 not out) seeing his Newport side home for the loss of just one wicket.
