13 Dec 2015 As the teams enter the Christmas and New Year break, Newport are closing in on their fourth indoor league title in just five seasons after they beat IW Prison Officers and second-placed East Cowes were defeated by Northwood.

Newport hit runs galore as they piled on 232-3 against IW Prison Officers, Harry Dye (56*), Nat Riddett (46), Lewis Wright (43*) and Gareth Bricknell (31*) all retiring. In reply, IWPO made 120-4, thanks mainly to Tom Killeen (33) and Cyrus Dean (27*), Bricknell taking 2-10. East Cowes were restricted to just 77 against Northwood after five run outs and 1-15 from Kerry Rice, Mark Hartnell (29) and Chris Higgins (20) top-scoring. The East Cowes bowlers did well in reply, Higgins the pick with 1-14, but Ashley Goldsmith (26*) guided Northwood home for the loss of three wickets with an over remaining. Ryde were victorious in another low-scoring affair, against Niton. Ben Fooks top-scored with 19 as Niton posted just 62, Darren Hall with figures of 2-22. Mark Oatley (29*) and Siby Parackal (17*) then eased Ryde home without losing a wicket after five overs.

Ryde Cavaliers have gone top of Division 2 after a comfortable win over Godshill. Matt Walter (27*) and Liam Roberts (26*) continued their form to help Cavaliers up to 142-3. John Fletcher (2-22) and Harry Roberts (2-23) then reduced Godshill to 51-5, before a spirited innings of 33 from Mackenzie Wright got her side up to 92, Cavaliers winning by 50 runs. Ventnor are level on points with Cavaliers after defeating Ryde School. Kyle Blair (32*) was the lone effort in a Ryde School total of 89-5, Martin Blackman taking 2-19. Blackman then made an unbeaten 23 as Ventnor passed their target after eight overs, winning by four wickets. Northwood II got back to winning ways, defeating IW Health Associates. Dave Pratt (23) top-scored as IWHA posted 69, Ben Baker impressing with the ball with figures of 3-12. Jake Cass (25*) then took command of the chase, with Northwood II winning by five wickets after seven overs. A strong Shanklin performance was enough to see off Island Bakeries. Matt Lambourne (52*) and Robin Moore (26*) helped Shanklin recover from 40-3 to post 130-4 from their 12 overs, Nick Rudd with figures of 2-20. Bakeries' chase started well, at 46-0 thanks to Ian Simmonds (17) but 3-3 from Jack Powell saw Bakeries crumble to 59 all out, Shanklin winning by 71 runs. Newport II got their first victory of the season in a comprehensive win over East Cowes II. Mike Watson, Ollie McArthur and Kevin Winchcombe all hit 26 not out as Newport II posted 136 without losing a wicket. Josh Jones (22) top-scored in reply, but two wickets each for Alfie Ross (2-23) and Ellie Thomson (2-34) saw East Cowes II bowled out for 83.
