Newport win Indoor Double

11 Jan 2015 Newport added another indoor league title to their collection on Sunday evening as victory over second-placed Ryde took them to an unassailable lead at the top of the table with two matches still remaining. Stuart Robertson (37) and Lawrence Tolfrey (27) top-scored for Ryde as Newport bowled them out for 115, two wickets apiece for Martin Blackman (2-27) and Gareth Bricknell (2-29). In reply, openers Harry Dye (29*) and Blackman (25*) started off well for Newport, before Nat Riddett (18*) helped get his side over the winning line in the final over with three wickets remaining. Northwood are now level on points with Ryde after beating Island Bakeries by three wickets. Mark Tuckwell returned figures of 4-15, including three wickets in four balls, as Island Bakeries were bowled out for 115, Ellis Ridett batting superbly for 50, with Matt Webb adding 25. Sam Richards took 2-29 in reply, but Pete Hayward (25*) top-scored for Northwood who passed the target in the 11th over. East Cowes came out on top in a low scoring match against Niton. Tom Wells top-scored with 20 as Niton were bowled out for just 80, Rob Cooney taking 2-9. Tight bowling made the chase difficult for East Cowes, Ben Fooks the pick of the bowlers with 2-17, but Mark Hartnell (26*) and Alan Johns (20) ensured a three wicket victory with an over to spare.

IW Prison Officers won the top of the table clash with Shanklin to move level with them on 20 points. Shanklin were bowled out for 115 after five run outs, despite the best efforts of Robin Moore (26) and Benji White (20). The chase never looked in doubt for IW Prison Officers who cruised to victory in the eighth over without losing a wicket, Neil Westhorpe (27*) and John Turner (25*) both retiring. Ryde II are the third side on 20 points after defeating IW Health Associates despite a wonderful individual effort from Karthik Kasubha. Ryde II posted a massive 164-2, with Mike Dalloz (38*), Dave Buckeridge (30*), Jadon Buckeridge (25*) and Joe Martin (25*) all retiring. In reply, Ryde II reduced IW Health Associates to 42-5 with five run outs, but a superb innings from Kasubha extended the innings to the final delivery, Kasubha making 76 in a lone hand as his side were bowled out for 97. East Cowes II are still winless after losing to Ryde Cavaliers by 63 runs. Ryde Cavaliers posted 166-2 from their 12 overs, Harry Roberts (39), Matt Walter (32*) and Joe Newnham (26*) the major contributors. Dave Cooper (29) and Dan Cox (26) both retired in the chase, but 3-16 from Harry Roberts saw East Cowes bowled out for 103. Northwood II were back to winning ways, beating Godshill by 31 runs. James Whitewood (28*), Jake Cass (25*) and John Jones (20*) helped Northwood II recover from a poor start to make 140-2. Ray Winter (35*) started well for Godshill, but impressive bowling in the middle overs dried the run rate up and Godshill fell short on 109-3.
