Northwood bowlers stun Ryde

22 Nov 2015 Ryde suffered their third straight defeat in Division 1 of the Isle of Wight Indoor League on Sunday after they were blown away by a rampant Northwood bowling attack. David Winter (3-16), Gavin Paddock (2-16) and Kerry Rice (1-1) ripped through the Ryde batting order in just 5.3 overs as Ryde made only 34 with their top-scorer hitting just five. Paddock then hit an unbeaten 23 as Northwood cruised to a six wicket win in just the fifth over for their second victory in a row. Newport eased to victory in their top-of-the-table clash with East Cowes to leapfrog them in the league. Alan Johns (44) played a lone effort as East Cowes were bowled out for 97, Gareth Bricknell the pick of the bowlers with 3-13 from his three overs. Harry Dye (29*) and Nat Riddett (25*) then both retired as Newport passed the target for the loss of one wicket with three overs remaining. Niton piled more misery on bottom side IW Prison Officers with a crushing victory. The top three of Joby Wells (29*), Ben Fooks (27*) and Tom Wells (27*) all scored heavily as Niton totalled 165-2. Cyrus Dean scored 19 in reply for IWPO, but they were halted by 3-20 from Greg Sparrow, IWPO ending on 76-4 from their 12 overs.

Ryde II stay top of Division 2 after a fourth consecutive win. Jadon Buckeridge (51*), Dave Buckeridge (38*) and Simon Wratten (29*) piled on the runs as they amassed 164-2 against IW Health Associates. In reply, Don Roe top-scored with an unbeaten 21, but Simon Bligh took 2-25 to restrict IWHA to 79-4. Ryde Cavaliers are the other unbeaten side remaining after defeating East Cowes II. Liam Roberts (30*) and Dan Walter (26*) both retired in a Cavaliers total of 125-3, Dave Cox (1-10) the pick of the bowlers. Cox then made 25 not out, with Tom Turtle adding 22, but Roberts (1-22) and John Fletcher (1-24) restricted East Cowes II to 104-3. Nathan Moore starred with bat and ball as Shanklin proved too strong for Godshill. Firstly, Moore hit an unbeaten 46, with his dad Robin (28*) and Callum Wright (25) also retiring in a score of 123-4. Moore then took 2-23 with the ball as Godshill were bowled out for 94, Norton Mew top-scoring with 22. Northwood II made it back-to-back wins with a comfortable victory over Ryde School. Kyle Blair (49*) and Tarun Howles (25) again scored the majority of the Ryde School runs in a total of 106-5. All four Northwood II bowlers took one wicket each, with John Jones (1-17) the pick of them. Northwood II then eased to their win, Callum Witham (26*), Ben Baker (24*) and Jake Cass (23) helping their side to a five wicket victory with two and a half overs remaining. Ventnor were the other winners on the evening, comfortably beating Newport II. Kevin Winchcombe made 27, but Morgan Perrin (2-22) and Harry Ridley (2-23) shared four wickets as Newport II were dismissed for 93. Perrin (18) and Tom Stafford (15*) then got Ventnor over the line for the loss of just one wicket.
