There was no cup glory for Ryde in the regional finals of the ECB Indoor National Club Championship after they were well beaten by Wiltshire champions Swindon in their semi-final at Taunton last Saturday.

Played at Somerset’s Indoor Cricket Centre, the island’s leading indoor side were without star all rounderJosh Proctor as they fell to a Swindon teamwho also comfortably beat Cheltenham Civil Service in the regional final and have now made it through to the national finals at Lords.

Ryde skipper Stuart Robertson won the toss and chose to bowl first but found the Swindon opening batsmen quickly getting into their stride. Ollie Morgan was the pick of the bowlers well as he took 1-20 and Dave Pratt stepped in with 2 catches and a run out but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Wiltshire side scoring a very challenging 139-4 off their 12 overs.

Ryde got off to the worst possible start as they lost 2 wickets in the first over and, although Ash Goldsmith (27 not out) and Mark Oatley (24) fought hard, the Swindon attack was always on top and Ryde’s total of 64-5 meant they fell to a 75 run defeat.
