It was Northwood 1 who became the latest team to feel the full force of Ryde 1’s runaway unbeaten start to the season as they were crushed by 125 runs in the latest round of games in Div 1 of the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League last Sunday.
Played at Rew Valley Sports Centre, Ryde as current champions smashed their way to 187-0 with all their batsmen reaching a not out score of 25 runs. In reply, Northwood 1 were bowled out for just 62 runs, 2 wickets each for Ollie Morgan and Stuart Robertson. There was a much closer game in the other Div 1 game between Shanklin &Godshill 1and Island Bakeries. Batting first, Bakeries managed to post a creditable 132-3 (Dean McGuire 26 not out). Seb Egerton Read (26 not out) helped the Westhill side get off to a good start but they were left needing 2 to win off the last ball with just 1 wicket remaining. Jimmy Winter used all his experience to scramble 3 leg byes to see his side home for their first victory of the season.
Cowes and Ryde have both yet to taste defeat as they lead the way in Div 2 following comfortable wins last week. An unbeaten 25 from Justin Pinder helped Cowes (69-0) overcome Northwood 2 (68-5). Ryde 2 hit 125-5 (Liam Ringer 38) and then held Ventnor to 62-5 to complete a 63 run triumph. Prison Officers recovered from a poor start to thrash Newport by 118 runs. Batting first, the Officers were in trouble at 17-4 but good knocks from Mark Allen (45) and Chris Earley (37 not out) took their side to a competitive 133-5. Newport were clearly rattled by this recovery as they were then bowled out in just 3 overs for 15 runs as Prison Officers picked up their first win of the campaign.
