The U12 Indoor league got under way last Friday with two fantastic encounters. The first saw Shanklin take on last year’s champions Newport. Shanklin batted first with Clemens and Howlett looking comfortable at the crease until Clemens was run out for 9. Attrill (41) came to the crease with Howlett (38) and it was not long until both had retired as they reached 25 with some ease. Batters came and went at regular intervals there afterwards as J White was run out for 0 and T Clemens was bowled for 0 by B Sammons. O Pease hung around and as Howlett re-entered the game, he put on another 10 runs until he was run out. Shanklin lost no more wickets as Pease (10no) and Attrill got the final score up to 128. Newport’s reply was hampered from the start as they only had five players, but Singh and Wilson started scoring from ball one until bowler of the game White (3-33) removed Wilson for 9. Tight bowling from Shanklin saw the next three wickets fall for a total of 15 runs, but this left the dangerous Singh on his own at the crease and he continued to score freely and got Newport to their target with 17 balls still remaining, giving Newport a 1 wicket victory.

The second game was between Ventnor and Porchfield & Island Bakeries. Openers  Hawkins (16) and Harper (21) got Ventnor of to a good start until Hawkins was out hitting is own wicket and Harper was run out by some sharp fielding. Mills (27) batted nicely and retired and R finished the innings not out on 20 and setting a target of 135. Porchfield & Island Bakeries innings openers Letchford (28) and Buchnor (9) got things under way. Mills removed Buchnor,  then H Bradshaw was bowled by Wells for 9 and Ventnor look favourites until Allen hit a quick fire 26 and Plafrey hit 16no to win the game with 9 balls to spare.
