This season's IW Under 13 Cup Final will be contested between Ryde and Ryde Cavaliers after they both won their respective semi-finals this week.

In a repeat of last years final, Cavaliers travelled to Ventnor and this time around, the result was reversed. Cavs batted first, but despite losing an early wicket to the pace bowling of Zeph Wells, Dexter Collins (24), Niall Powell (18) and Charlie Bligh (25 not out) all knuckled down, and took their team to a respectable 137 for 3 off the allotted 20 overs. Nine year old Will Mew bowled tightly for Ventnor, returning figures of 1-15 from his 3 overs.

The Ventnor reply didn't start well, with their former player, Mackenzie Wright striking early for Cavaliers, dismissing both Ventnor openers. Miss Wright went on to finish with superb figures of 2 for 10 from her 4 overs. The Ventnor innings never really got going after such a stifled start, and despite an excellent 30 (retired) from Wells, the innings closed on 101 for 3, with Cavs winning by 36 runs.

Ryde's win over Newport at Newclose on Wednesday was even more emphatic. Newport had no answer to the rampant Ryde batters, with Rory Buckeridge (32 retired), Ben Shaw (33 retired) and Ollie Lovell (30 retired) leading their side to a very impressive total of 174 for 2. In reply, Jack Dry struck an unbeaten 37 but his side were always behind the run rate, and finished on 103 for 9, 71 runs behind. Theo Dalloz (2-15) and Shaw (2-4) picked up a couple of wickets each.

The final will be the first one not to feature Ventnor since 2010, and both of the Ryde sides will be keen to see their name added to the cup. The winners will go on to represent the Isle of Wight in the South East of England regional competition, away to the winners of the Sussex Cup on Sunday July 12th.
