Ventnor's U12 stopped Ryde Cavaliers making it a league and cup double for the second year by defeating them in the cup final last Friday at Rew Valley Sports Centre.
Ventnor had to overcome Ryde in their semi-final first, which did not look like happening as Ryde took early wickets and kept the score down to 55 with only 4 over left. But Ben Attrill 49 not out rescued Ventnor innings and saw them finish on 109.
Ryde were given a solid platform to begin with as Louie Wrenn reached 25 and retired and Rory Buckeridge (12) scored quickly but the wheels fell of the innings as some smart fielding and some indifferent running between the wickets gave Ventnor three quick run outs which left Ryde chasing runs and giving Ventnor victory by 47 runs.
In the final Ventnor batted first and were out of the blocks quickly as Dan Cox (36) hit a quick fire 27 of 8 balls and retired. He was well supported by Zac Wells (17), Clayton Farrell (19) and Ben Attrill (13) who all kept the score board ticking along and gave Ryde Cavaliers a challenging run chase of 121 to win the game.
The pressure was kept up by Ventnor who took a wicket with the first ball of the Ryde Cavaliers innings. The cavaliers players never really recovered and found it hard to get the run rate up to where it needed to be and were eventually bowled out 27 runs short of their target, so giving victory and the cup to Ventnor.
