Ventnor Under 13s took a giant step towards winning the Mal Sketchley Memorial League on Monday evening, with an eight wicket win over Ryde. Ryde batted first, and good knocks by Harry Leggett (41 not out), Joe Martin (27) and Ben Shaw (25 not out), resulted in Ryde posting a total of 126 for 2 from their 20 overs. Ventnor's reply saw captain John Buckman and Ben Attrill both hit identical scores of 35 not out, and with Ryde conceding twice as many extras as Ventnor (41), Ventnor wrapped up the win in the 16th over.

Ventnor will now feel confident ahead of their Cup Final at Newclose later this month against the same opposition. Ventnor reached the final without bowling a ball, as both Shanklin and Porchfield conceded their games. Ryde meanwhile have reached the final after beating both Northwood last month, and Ryde Cavaliers in an exciting semi-final on Sunday. The semi-final saw Cavaliers bat first and record a total of 111 for 6, with Ollie Niemiec retiring on 30, whilst nine year old Rory Buckeridge recorded superb figures for Ryde of 3 for 1 from his 2 overs. In reply, Ryde lost 6 wickets in the chase, and just managed to scrape home in the final over, Harry Leggett once again top scoring with 31 retired.
